Overview
What this piece is
An ivory and gold priest's stole, densely embroidered top to bottom with a crown, a cross, an IHS monogram, crossed torches with an orb, a Chi-Rho, fleur-de-lis and an Alpha and Omega over an open book.
For ordination, solemnities and other high feast days in the white and gold class.
Symbolism
IHS is the traditional monogram of the Holy Name of Jesus; the Chi-Rho combines the first two Greek letters of "Christ". The crossed torches and orb recall the light of Christ carried into the world, and the Alpha and Omega over an open book name Christ as beginning and end (Revelation 22:13).

Details
About this stole
This priest's stole is worked in gold on an ivory ground with eight emblems stacked down each panel, from a crown near the collar to an Alpha and Omega over an open book near the hem. It can be tailored to your own length.
Design and symbolism
Starting at the collar, each panel carries, in order: a crown with a red velvet-look band, a plain gold cross, the IHS monogram of the Holy Name, crossed flaming torches rising from an orb topped with a small cross, a passage of gold scrollwork, a Chi-Rho formed from the first two Greek letters of "Christ", a red fleur-de-lis, and finally an Alpha and Omega set over an open book near the hem. The gold thread stands proud of the ivory ground with a clear raised texture, consistent with worked satin stitch. A gold scrollwork border runs along both edges of each panel, gold cord edges the whole stole, and gold bullion fringe finishes both ends; the neck flap is plain ivory with a gold chevron trim and carries none of the panel emblems.
Liturgical use
White and gold is the class for the church's highest days: Easter, Christmas, and the solemnities and feasts that call for festal dress. This stole is built for those occasions and for ordination; it is not for Lent, for a funeral, or for Ordinary Time, when its density of gold work would be out of place.
Who it is for
The pattern and its stacked emblems sit most naturally in a Catholic ordination, though IHS, the Chi-Rho and the Alpha and Omega are held in common across Anglican, Lutheran and other liturgical churches, so a priest or bishop from any of those traditions can wear it on a high feast.
Length and fit
Standard finished length is 120 in (305 cm), measured end to end over both shoulders. A made-to-measure length from 84 in to 120 in costs no more than standard; past 120 in, $10 is added for each further 5 in, to a maximum of 160 in. Enter your height in the box on this page for a suggested length, which you can change; whatever you confirm travels with your order through checkout.
