Overview
What this piece is
An ivory damask gothic chasuble with burgundy velvet orphreys embroidered in gold with the story of the Magi: the comet star, three crowns, and gold, frankincense and myrrh.
A white-class vestment for the Epiphany and the Christmas season. Offered in four standard sizes, or tailored to your own measurements; Made to Measure is priced the same as Extra Large.
Symbolism
The comet star is the star the Magi followed to Bethlehem (Matthew 2:9), and the three crowns are the kings who came to worship.
Their gifts name who the Child is: gold for a king, frankincense for God, and myrrh for one who would die.

An ivory gothic chasuble for the Epiphany, cut from ivory satin woven with a pomegranate damask and set with burgundy velvet orphreys. The embroidery, in gold-coloured thread, tells the story of the Magi: the star that led them, the crowns of the three kings, and the gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
The embroidery
On the back, a Y-shaped velvet orphrey carries three crowns across the yoke, one for each king, with a large eight-pointed comet star at the centre trailing its tail down the column. Beneath the star, three roundels framed in gold scrollwork hold the gifts: a treasure chest for gold, a censer for frankincense and a jar for myrrh.
The front column repeats the theme: the comet star at the collar, a single crown below it, and roundels of the gifts set between gold scrolls. Each orphrey is edged in gold-coloured braid, and the neckline and hem are bound to match.
Liturgical use
Ivory belongs to the white class. This chasuble is made first for the Solemnity of the Epiphany and the days around it, and it is equally at home through the whole Christmas season, from Christmas Day to the Baptism of the Lord. Because it is white-class, it is also correct on any day that calls for white or gold.
Cut and construction
Full gothic cut, wide across the shoulders and falling in a deep curve over the arms, with no fastening. The body is ivory satin with a woven pomegranate damask; the orphreys are burgundy velvet with the embroidery stitched into the velvet and edged in gold-coloured braid.
