Overview
What this piece is
A rose damask gothic chasuble with gold orphreys embroidered with a heraldic rose and cross, a climbing rose vine and a lit candle.
For Gaudete Sunday in Advent and Laetare Sunday in Lent. Offered in four standard sizes, or tailored to your own measurements; Made to Measure is priced the same as Extra Large.
Symbolism
Gaudete ('Rejoice') and Laetare ('Be joyful') take their names from the first words of the Entrance Antiphon; rose is violet lightened by the joy of the coming feast.
The rose bearing a cross joins that joy to the Passion, and the lit candle on the front recalls the third candle of the Advent wreath.

Cut to your measurements
Four standard sizes, or cut to your own measurements (Made to Measure is priced the same as Extra Large)
A rose-coloured gothic chasuble for the two Sundays of the year when rose may be worn. The body is rose satin woven with a damask pattern, and the gold orphreys carry a heraldic rose bearing a cross, a climbing vine of rose blossoms and, on the front, a single lit candle at the hem.
The embroidery
On the back, a broad Y-shaped gold orphrey frames a heraldic rose with a cross at its heart, set in a burst of gold rays at the centre of the yoke. Rose sprays run out along both arms of the Y, and a long vine of roses and leaves climbs the column to the hem, worked in rose, dusky pink and green thread on the gold ground.
The front column opens with the same rose and cross at the collar, continues with a rose vine, and ends with a lit candle at the hem. The orphreys are edged in gold-coloured braid, and the outer hem and sleeves are bound with a gold trim.
Liturgical use
Rose may be worn in place of violet on Gaudete Sunday, the Third Sunday of Advent, and Laetare Sunday, the Fourth Sunday of Lent, where that is the custom. It marks the midpoint of each penitential season with a note of joy at the coming feast. It is not worn on other days.
Cut and construction
Full gothic cut, wide across the shoulders and falling in a deep curve over the arms, with no fastening. The body is rose satin with a woven damask pattern; the orphreys are gold satin embroidered with coloured and gold-coloured thread, and the chasuble is lined in a champagne satin.
