Overview
What this piece is
An ivory and gold priest's stole with a repeating gold diamond-lattice of wheat sheaves and Eucharistic hosts, closing in a chalice emblem near the hem.
Worn for Ordinary Time Mass, First Communion and ordination.
Symbolism
The wheat and host cells repeat the two elements of the Eucharist across the whole stole.
The chalice near the hem gathers both into the image a priest sees each time he vests.

Details
About this stole
The Ivory and Gold Chalice Wheat Stole is a priest's stole with its full length covered in a repeating diamond lattice: a wheat sheaf in one cell, a host marked with a cross in the next, run end to end down both panels. Near the hem the pattern gives way to a single larger emblem, a chalice under a radiating sunburst, worked just above the gold fringe.
Design and symbolism
Both panels are worked edge to edge in gold thread on an ivory satin-faced ground with a tonal woven lattice texture. The lattice cells alternate two motifs on repeat: a wheat sheaf and a small roundel bearing a host marked with a cross. Wheat and host together stand for the bread of the Eucharist, sown, gathered and consecrated. Where the lattice ends, near the bottom of each panel, a larger chalice rises under a radiating sunburst, the image a priest sees looking down as he vests, and the image a congregation sees raised at the altar. The reverse is left plain ivory, with only a small gold cross worked at the back of the neckline, a discreet finishing touch rather than a design statement.
Liturgical use
White and gold is the colour of joy in the Western calendar. It is worn through Ordinary Time at any Mass without a more specific colour assigned, and it is the proper colour for Corpus Christi, where the eucharistic theme of this stole is most at home. It also serves well for First Communion and for a priest's own ordination. It is not a stole for Lent or for a funeral Mass in the older use, both of which call for violet or black, and its symbolism sits with the altar, not with the Advent or Marian calendar.
Who it is for
This is cut for a priest, in the presbyteral style worn straight down both shoulders rather than crossed. It suits a parish priest wanting a Sunday and feast-day eucharistic stole, and it is a natural ordination gift for a man about to say his first Mass.
Length and fit
Standard finished length is 120 in (305 cm), measured end to end over the shoulders. Any made-to-measure length from 84 in to 120 in costs the same as standard; beyond 120 in, $10 is added for every further 5 in, up to 160 in. Enter a height in the box on this page and it will suggest a length; you are free to override it. Whatever you enter, the exact length, the height given and any notes you add travel through to your cart, checkout and order, so every detail you chose stays with your order.
