Overview
What this piece is
Black stole with a subtle tone-on-tone woven cross pattern, embroidered in the lower third of each panel with a cross, a chalice wrapped in a crown of thorns, and blood drops. For Good Friday, requiem Masses and Lenten Communion.
Symbolism
The chalice wrapped in a crown of thorns, with drops falling from the cup, reads the cup of the Eucharist against the suffering of the Passion in one image. Black is the traditional colour of mourning and of Good Friday itself in several Western traditions, though many parishes now use red on that day instead.

Details
About this stole
This priest's or pastor's stole is black cloth with a subtle tone-on-tone woven cross lattice pattern in the weave itself. Each panel carries, low near the hem, a gold cross above a gold chalice wrapped in a crown of thorns, with red drops falling from the cup.
Design and symbolism
The woven cross pattern in the fabric is not embroidery; it is a self-pattern visible only at certain angles and under direct light, which gives the stole a quieter texture than our more heavily embroidered pieces. The embroidered motifs themselves sit only in the lower third of each panel - cross, chalice, crown of thorns and blood drops - leaving the rest of the panel plain black bordered in gold piping.
The chalice wrapped in a crown of thorns, with drops falling from the cup, sets the Eucharist directly against the suffering of the Passion in one image, rather than showing the two ideas separately as some of our other stoles do.
Liturgical use
Black is the traditional colour of mourning and, in several Western traditions, of Good Friday itself, though a good number of parishes now use red for that day's liturgy instead - check your own custom before ordering for that purpose specifically. It also serves Requiem and funeral Masses in traditions that still keep black for that occasion, and general Communion services through Lent where a sombre note is wanted.
Who it is for
A priest, pastor or minister who wants a modern, restrained stole for Good Friday, for a funeral or requiem, or for Lenten Communion services generally. Its quiet fabric pattern and lower-panel-only embroidery suit clergy who prefer understatement to dense goldwork.
Length and fit
Standard finished length is 120 in (305 cm), measured end to end over both shoulders; any made-to-measure length from 84 in to 120 in is priced the same as standard, with $10 added for every further 5 in past that, up to 160 in. The height box on the product page suggests a length, which you can override - your figure carries through to the cart, checkout and order.
