Overview
What this piece is
An ivory satin-look stole embroidered with lit candles and pine sprays, worked down both panels in gold, amber, green and brown thread.
For Advent and Christmas services, best suited to congregations that keep white or gold through Advent rather than violet or blue.
Symbolism
Candles stand for Christ as the light of the world, a theme Advent keeps returning to. Pine and its cones are evergreen, a traditional sign of life continuing through winter.

Details
About this stole
The Advent Candle and Pine Stole is an ivory satin-look stole embroidered top to bottom with the two plants and lights of the Advent season: a ringed candle near the neckline, sprays of pine with pinecones below it, a pair of smaller candles further down, and a second pine spray running toward the hem. It can be tailored to any length a wearer needs.
Design and symbolism
Each panel repeats the same sequence. At the neck sits a single large candle set inside a gold ring, its flame worked in amber and gold thread. Below it a spray of pine needles and two pinecones spreads across the panel in green and brown. Further down, a pair of smaller candles stands side by side, echoing the first, and the design closes with another pine and pinecone spray near the hem. Candlelight is one of the oldest visual shorthand for Christ as the light of the world, and it sits naturally against evergreen, the traditional sign of life that does not fade with winter. Together the two motifs read as a straightforward Advent picture: light kept burning through the dark weeks before Christmas.
Liturgical use
The Clergy Couture classes this stole as white. That is worth being plain about: white and gold are the colours of Christmas, not of Advent proper. Where a parish keeps the older discipline of violet, or the Sarum and Anglican custom of blue, through the four Sundays of Advent, this ivory piece is not the stole for that pulpit. It belongs instead to congregations, many of them low-church Protestant or non-liturgical, that wear white or gold through Advent itself, and it is a natural, uncomplicated choice for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, when white is worn almost everywhere. A candle-lighting service built around an Advent wreath is exactly the setting the design was drawn for.
Who it is for
This is a stole for a priest, pastor or minister leading Advent or Christmas worship, whether that is a Sunday liturgy, a midweek candle-lighting service, or the Christmas Eve or Christmas Day service itself. The single continuous ivory panel and plain, unfringed ends keep the piece understated enough for a congregation that prefers its vestments quiet rather than heavily worked.
Length and fit
Standard length is 120 in (305 cm) end to end, worn straight down over both shoulders in the presbyteral cut. Anything from 84 in up to 120 in costs the same as standard; past that, $10 is added for each further 5 in, up to 160 in. Give your height in the box on this page and it will suggest a starting length, which you are free to adjust. Whatever length and notes you enter travel through to your cart and your order automatically.
