Overview
What this piece is
A black, velvet-look stole with a climbing calla lily vine in white and pale gold, finished in silver beaded fringe, with a gold cross and crown on the back yoke.
Suited to funerals, where black is the traditional colour, and to weddings where an officiant chooses it by preference rather than rubric.
Symbolism
The calla lily carries two long-standing meanings in church use: purity, and resurrection or eternal life, which is why the same flower suits both a wedding and a funeral.

Details
About this stole
The Calla Lily Stole is a black, velvet-look stole with silver-toned piping, its two panels carrying a climbing vine of white and pale gold calla lilies that opens as it descends, finishing in a silver beaded fringe. It is available in any length its wearer needs.
Design and symbolism
Each panel begins near the neck with a scrolling stem, small leaves and unopened buds, and opens lower down into several full calla lily blooms worked in white and cream against the black ground, before ending in beaded silver fringe. The calla lily has carried two meanings in church use for a long time: purity, which is why it turns up at weddings, and resurrection or eternal life, which is why the same flower appears just as often at funerals. This stole was designed to hold both readings at once rather than choose between them. A second motif appears only on the back: a gold cross with radiating rays, a small crown-like shape above it, embroidered on the yoke where the front vine does not reach.
Liturgical use
Black belongs to funerals and requiem Masses in the Roman and Anglo-Catholic traditions, and it is worn there without difficulty. It has no comparable liturgical claim on weddings, where white, gold or the couple's chosen colour is far more usual; an officiant who wears black to a wedding is making a personal or stylistic choice, not following a colour rubric, and should check with the couple and the church before doing so.
Who it is for
This stole suits a priest, pastor or minister who officiates at both funerals and weddings and wants one well-made piece for occasions that share a flower rather than a colour rule. The beaded silver fringe and velvet-look ground give it more presence than a plain satin stole, without moving into the heavily worked end of the catalogue.
Length and fit
Standard length runs 120 in (305 cm) end to end, in the presbyteral cut worn straight down over both shoulders. Made to measure from 84 in to 120 in is priced the same as standard; past 120 in, $10 is added for every further 5 in, up to 160 in. The height box on this page suggests a length once you enter your height, though you are free to enter your own; whatever length, height and notes you settle on travel through to your cart, checkout and order.
