Overview
What this piece is
A royal blue clergy stole with a gold-embroidered vine on a wide ivory band down each panel and a gold Celtic ring-cross at the back neck.
For Advent in traditions that keep blue, for Marian devotions, or as a wedding or ordination gift.
Symbolism
The vine and its fruit stand for Christ as the true vine and the growth of a life joined to him (John 15). The ringed Celtic cross joins the cross to an unbroken circle, a form long used in Insular and Celtic Christian art.

Details
About this stole
This priest's stole sets a gold-embroidered vine against a royal blue ground, with a wide ivory band carrying the motif down each front panel and a gold Celtic ring-cross worked into the back of the neck. It can be tailored to your own length.
Design and symbolism
An ivory band runs the full length of each panel, bordered in blue, and on it a gold vine climbs from a rooted trunk near the hem, putting out leaves and small round fruit as it rises; the thread has a visible raised texture, consistent with worked satin stitch rather than a flat print. The vine draws on Christ's words in John 15, "I am the vine, you are the branches", a common image for a life grafted onto Christ and bearing fruit from it. At the back of the neck, a gold Celtic ring-cross sits within a thin gold border: a cross set inside an unbroken circle, a form associated with Insular and Celtic Christian art. Gold cord edges the whole stole and gold bullion fringe finishes both ends.
Liturgical use
Blue is not a colour of the Roman rite. Where it is worn, it belongs chiefly to Advent, in Sarum use and in a number of Anglican parishes that keep a blue Advent rather than a violet one, and it appears by long custom on Marian feasts and in Marian devotions in several traditions. It is not a substitute for Roman violet in Lent, and a priest should check his own parish's custom before ordering blue for Advent, since not every parish keeps it.
Who it is for
The vine and ring-cross suit a priest or minister who wants a stole with a Celtic character, whether for regular blue-Advent wear, for a wedding where the officiant favours blue, or as an ordination gift for someone with Celtic or Insular sympathies.
Length and fit
Standard finished length is 120 in (305 cm), end to end over both shoulders. A made-to-measure length from 84 in to 120 in costs no more than standard; beyond 120 in, $10 is added for each further 5 in, to a maximum of 160 in. Give your height in the box above and the page will suggest a length for you to confirm or adjust; that figure carries through to your cart, checkout and order.
