About this piece

More clergy accessories

A silver-tone cross pendant with trefoil ends and a granulated, beaded face, on a box chain. Long in the lower arm in the manner of a pectoral cross, and plain enough to be worn every day.

01

The design

Each arm finishes in a trefoil, and a raised rosette sits at the crossing. The face is worked in fine beading and diamond tracery in the old granulated manner rather than being set with stones, so the interest is in the metalwork itself. The lower arm is longer than the other three, which is what gives the cross its upright, pectoral proportion.

02

Material and finish

Silver-tone metal with an oxidised finish in the recesses, which is what makes the beading read rather than flattening into a grey surface. Supplied on a box chain.

03

Size

Exact pendant and chain measurements are being confirmed and will be listed here. Write to us before ordering if you need them, and we will measure the piece in hand.

04

Who wears it

A cross of this shape suits a deacon, a reader, a seminarian or a lay minister worn over a shirt, and it makes a straightforward ordination or profession gift. It is a devotional cross rather than an episcopal pectoral cross, which is a larger and more formal thing.

05

Care

Wipe with a soft dry cloth. Do not polish the beaded face hard: the darker tone in the recesses is what makes the pattern visible, and rubbing it out leaves the cross looking flat.

Take it off before swimming or bathing, and store it in its box so the chain does not tangle.
