red-tree-of-life-pentecost-stole
Red Pentecost Stole with Rooted Tree of Life, Dove and Flame Embroidery

The Tree of Life Pentecost Stole is a red stole embroidered on both panels with a white dove, an orange-gold flame and a large tree in brown and green thread, its roots visible at the base of each panel. It can be tailored to your own length.

Design and symbolism

Each panel carries a white dove near the shoulder, the Holy Spirit's usual image at Pentecost, followed by a flame in orange and gold recalling the tongues of fire at the Spirit's descent in Acts 2. Below both, a tree with a visible root system fills most of the panel's lower two-thirds, its branches in green leaf and its roots worked in brown thread at the hem. The tree of life is a long-standing Christian image drawn from scripture, and pairing it with roots left in full view, rather than trimming the tree at ground level, gives it more presence than a simple foliage motif.

Liturgical use

Red belongs to the red liturgical colour class, worn for Pentecost Sunday, for the feasts of martyrs and apostles, and by custom for ordinations. It is not the colour for Ordinary Time, Advent, Lent, or white-class solemnities. The dove-flame-tree sequence here reads specifically as a Pentecost and growth-in-faith design, so it suits Pentecost Sunday and Spirit-themed services more naturally than a general martyr's-feast red.

Who it is for

A priest, pastor or minister presiding at Pentecost, or marking an ordination where the imagery of the Spirit taking root in a new ministry has particular resonance. Its scale and detail also make it a considered ordination or installation gift.

Length and fit

Standard length is 120 in (305 cm) end to end over the shoulders, worn straight down in the presbyteral cut. Made-to-measure lengths from 84 in to 120 in cost the same as standard; beyond that, $10 is added for each further 5 in up to 160 in. The height box on this page suggests a length from the height you give, which you can adjust yourself. Your chosen length, height and any notes carry through to the cart, checkout and order.

Explore the rest of our Pentecost Vestments and Red Vestments, browse the wider Clergy Stoles range, or read the vestment glossary for more on stole symbolism.
