The veil is laid over the chalice with the cross to the front.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eCloth and finish\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003ePurple satin in a true liturgical violet rather than a blue-leaning shade, which is what keeps it sitting correctly beside a violet chasuble and an Advent or Lent frontal.
