The stole crosses from the left shoulder to the right hip, which is the deacon's placement rather than the priest's.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003ch2\u003eCloth and finish\u003c\/h2\u003e\u003cp\u003eDeep navy satin with silver banding applied rather than printed, so it stands slightly proud of the ground cloth and holds its line from the back of the nave. Silver against navy reads cooler and quieter than gold against colour, which is why it suits the penitential end of the year and the plainer end of the Protestant tradition.
