ivory-arch-tree-mosaic-stole
Ivory Tree of Life Stole with Stained-Glass Arch and Mosaic Ground

This ivory clergy stole sets a stained-glass-style Tree of Life inside an arch on each panel, above a glittering mosaic ground, with plain ivory fabric left above and below. It can be tailored to your own length.

Design and symbolism

Rather than run the full drop of the stole, the design is confined to an arch-shaped section at the mid-panel: a gold trunk and roots curl into a circular knot at the base, rising into green leaf clusters touched with red, all rendered with hard black outlines in a stained-glass style. Beneath the tree, a mosaic of small tiles in blue, green, gold and red fills the lower part of the arch, catching the light with a faceted, glittering finish. The tree above and the mosaic below give the impression of a church window sitting over a tiled floor. The whole panel sits flat against the ivory ground rather than standing proud of it. Plain ivory fabric fills the space above and below the arch, and gold cord pipes the edges; there is no fringe.

Liturgical use

As an ivory stole it belongs to the white class, worn on the church's high days and, by long custom, at weddings regardless of season. Its plain sections and adjustable length make it easy to shorten or lengthen for a particular wearer without cutting into the motif, which is one reason couples and officiants order it for a wedding rather than a fixed feast.

Who it is for

A priest, pastor or minister officiating a wedding, or receiving this as an ordination gift, will get the most from the arch design, since the plain ivory above and below leaves visual room rather than crowding the whole panel with pattern.

Length and fit

Standard finished length is 120 in (305 cm), measured end to end over both shoulders. Any made-to-measure length from 84 in to 120 in is priced the same as standard; past 120 in, $10 is added for every further 5 in, to a maximum of 160 in. Enter a height in the box above for a suggested length, which you may override; the length, height and any notes you confirm travel through to your cart, checkout and order.

Browse wedding and officiant vestments and the wider clergy stoles range, or read our measuring guide before you confirm a length.
